Welcome to 35 Neville Street, Spreydon. After seven years of living here, it's time for us to move on. The house was built in the 1920s, with add-ons in subsequent years, and has been re-piled, re-wired, and re-plumbed. A few years ago, we laid sub-floor insulation. The boys have been unwell with colds, croup (Daniel and Tim), and sore throats (including Katrina). Saturday I was up to Daniel 9-10 times, and Monday night up to Tim 5-6 times. That's tiring. Anyway, regardless of that, imagine my delight when the above scene took place out of the front room window on Tuesday morning. That moss covered power pole is no more!
Wow, what a change the roof makes to the look and feel of the house. We went out expecting to see the roof fully on (which it was), but were pleasantly surprised to see windows and most doors, too. Hurray Horncastle and team!
Tim was two on February 4, and we celebrated with a family dinner at Katrina's parent's house. In the photo above, Tim is conducting the "Happy Birthday" song, just prior to blowing out his candles. We had to re-light the candles, as Tim had them blown out the first time before Edna (Katrina's mum) had even put the cake down on the table. What a boy!
Canterbury has been suffering from a drought for most of the summer, with rain extremely scarce. This photo shows that it has been raining at Greendale recently; also the grass is looking the "greenist" is has for weeks. Hopefully this water inside is the biggest puddle we'll ever see in the new house, but with five little boys, who can tell?
We have the beginnings of a roof! The Horncastle Homes team have been working to erect the trusses. On such a big house, that's a big job!
The framing for our new home is finally up ... this place is starting to look like a new home. We walked around inside -- very nice. A subsequent visit by Katrina's parents discovered one of the framing panels upside down, meaning that you had to jump over a wall to get into one of the rooms. That's fixed now, however.
Okay, so I'm a bit behind in keeping this site up to date. Our family plus my Dad had a very enjoyable visit to the Wigram Air Force Museum, here in Christchurch. Although I've lived in Christchurch for almost 16 years, I'd never been there. It is WELL worth a day long visit, if not longer. Above is Daniel (3) and Matthew (6) sitting inside one of the planes.
