Wayne and Edna looked after the boys for 23 hours while Michael and Katrina had a day away together -- the first time for many years. We stayed at The Chatterley Manor, which used to be the Highcroft Country Club, where we stayed during our honeymoon in 1994. Well worth it! www.ladychatterley.co.nz
Here's Philip after the homeschooling visit to the Christchurch Central Fire Station. He thought he'd get dressed up himself.
The boys *love* play-acting at being policemen, complete with "robbers" and other baddies. We now have our very own police car for chasing said baddies whenever they appear.
We drove to Greendale after dinner and found that John & co. had been busy during the week with the framing for the foundation for our new home. The house starts to look bigger, too, now that there is something to constrain the eye.
Michael's colleague from Ferris Research days, Fred Berlack, and his wife Barbara, visited for a few minutes on Thursday afternoon. Fred spent 30 years at IBM, and then worked at Texas Instruments in its messaging and directory division, along with some very smart people, eg, Jim and his X.500 directory work. Barbara is a travel agent, and both Fred and Barbara like travelling at this stage of their lives. We shared lunch (courtesy of Ferris Research) at a nice restaurant (and joined by Fred's New Zealand-based colleague John Sinclair), and then Fred and Barbara visited for "5 minutes of noise and boys" before heading back to their cruise ship. Daniel (3) loves his bed-time cups of milk, usually consuming 2-3 after dinner and before going to sleep. On Wednesday night, however, sleep got the better of him, and he was out-to-it before finishing off his second cup. Sleep well, little boy!
Tim received his very first black eye, administered by a 20 cm bolt falling off the top of a cupboard onto his face. Thankfully -- and we praise God for this -- the bolt missed his eyeball, but only just as you can see. The bolt has been disciplined severely!
